In 1996, The Greater Portmore Junior Centre located at the Civic Centre complex was a gift from the Matalon family and was built by West Indies Home Contractors (WIHCON). It was dedicated to the memory of Moses Montfiore Matalon, whose vision helped to shape Portmore.
Today the Junior Centre functions under the mandate of the Programmes Coordination Division to, “provide the facilities for young people to acquire knowledge, develop skills in the various art forms so as to foster their intellectual, aesthetic and cultural growth.”
