This series had its genesis as a set of music, choral and dramatic recitals which were first staged in 1942 at the Institute of Jamaica. The early concerts were music recitals which comprised of programmes of recorded classical music and performances by local and foreign musicians.
Since then, this concert series has evolved into an outreach programme which promotes an interest in not only classical music, but also of local cultural art forms such as music, speech and dance of a variety of genres. These concerts are presented to the public free of charge and are usually held once a month in the Lecture Hall of the Institute of Jamaica.
